Last year, Allan Trench presented some ideas of ours, about the nature of collaborative, inter-disciplinary applied research to the Deep Exploration Technologies Cooperative Research Centre (DET CRC). The DET CRC is coming to the end of its excellent run of research (primarily in low-cost drilling technologies) helping mineral explorers in Australia tackle deep, under cover exploration, one of the critical untapped search spaces in Australia.
The presentation covers the economics of applied research and its importance, a framework for understanding the challenges of cooperative research, and the importance of team dynamics in co-operative research (drawing from the work of Adam Grant’s ‘Givers & Takers’).
